This badge indicated you have to buy it's 59 or so dollar subscription, known as the membership, to use it. The membership was also advertised after ever single battle, and that is no mere exaggeration, and after the membership ad, you get the loot, which often contained a wand or piece of clothing that looked nice but had this golden "M" badge on it. And the predatory marketing combined with this switch towards a younger demographic with its monsters reduced to thing's that will catch the eye of a young child. I didn't find much trouble with it but it was annoying. You also lost those spells and got distributed some cool rings for some new spells, and wands now made a four spell. You kept your progress, but chances are half your stuff was thrown behind the paywall, which had been expanding the whole time, but it was more noticeable now. And on the topic of moves, there used to be many of them in a wheel that did not spin, and you clicked on the one you wanted, such as conjure which could launch anything from a rock to a mushroom (which I believe certain things conjured did different amounts of damage, and it got a laugh or two from my friend group,) then after the update, it all just vanished. What was once a small selection of items you had to buy at shops now became 75% of everything in the game, and any basic monster catching RPG mechanics beyond levelling up and learning moves were locked behind that figurative gate. Every monster essentially became a glorified cloud, or an anthropomorphic animal (an animal that appears with humanlike qualities such as standing up or speaking, can be done well but this is not a case where that happened.) And the membership, don't get me started on that. Now what if I told you you're at least three years too late, likely more, and what was once a varied and beautiful world where you needed to heal by doing a math problem at a crystal, and could fight monsters that ranged from adorable to awesome, was now a game that went from the broad audience of basically anybody to the younger demographics.
There was a membership but it had very little in it and you really didn't need it. There are normal human wizards, elemental mages, and a somewhat comedic villain. You so as you're asked and you log onto the amazing world of Prodigy, where an amazing awaits. Let me paint a picture, it's a normal day in your grade 2 class and the teacher brings out the chromebooks, and give you a username and password, and give you a website URL.
